Reasons for the choice of treatment

The reasons why we chose to use this treatment for our thriller was because we thought that it would be a lot easier to do. With treatment 1, we thought that it would be quite hard to try and set it up to look like a person was looking through the scope of the rifle.

Treatment 2 seemed a lot more like a thriller and also looked easier to make. We thought that it looked a lot more interesting as well. The way that we have set out treatment 2 was a lot different to our initial idea of treatment 1.

We also went into more detail with treatment 2, so we thought as we were so far ahead with that one, it would make it a lot easier when it came down to filming it.

We wanted to make the thriller seem as realistic as possible. If we had gone with treatment1, it would have been hard to film due to the fact it included guns.

Treatment 2 is more realistic and also a lot easier to even think about doing before we start. The concept of this thriller is easy to do (e.g. washing blood off hands) and the fact that you cannot see the person’s face also sets up a mystery in itself.

Treatment 2 - Thriller Opening

Title- Love In Cold Blood

Scene 1

· First image is of a man washing blood off his hands

· Bright lights on sink. Dark everywhere else in room to show the emphasis of the blood running off the hand

· P.O.V shot so that the man’s face cannot be seen

· Sound of the taps and heavy breathing

Scene 2

· Background will be newspaper cuttings

· Credits will fade in from the centre on the screen

· Sound of sheet being ripped and the sound of footsteps

Scene 3

· Same arms as in the first scene but this time wrapping a knife up with the torn sheet

· Both the knife and the sheet are covered in blood

· Fairly dim lighting, still tell what the arms are doing

· P.O.V shot used again, so you still won’t be able to see the person’s face

· The only sounds that will be heard are the noise that the person will make e.g. breathing

Scene 4

· Similar to scene 2.

· More credits will appear

· The sound of the scene will be petrol being poured and the sound of a match being struck, then the sound of a fire

· This will be able to make the film more fluid in between scenes

Scene 5

· Image of a burning barrel, you will be able to see the knife wrapped in the torn sheet in the barrel

· The sounds you will be able to hear will be the fire

· The lighting will be the fire

· This scene will be a close-up f the barrel and the content

Scene 6

· Similar to scene’s 2 and 4 but this time showing an image of a person

· The final set of credits will appear on thins scene

· Sound of a car door being shut and the engine starting

· Font size will be medium

· Font colour will be black

· Font style will be plain

· This will be the same for all the credits

Scene 7

· Car driving off (can’t see driver) and the burning barrel in background

· Sound of the car

· Light will be the headlights of the car and the fire from the barrel

· Pan-shot to follow the car as it leaves

· Fade to black at the end of the scene

Scene 8

· Title of film appears in the centre of the screen

· Writing is very bold

· The colour of the writing is white

· Dull music starts to play

Treatment 1 - Thriller Opening

Treatment for Thriller Opening

Title for thriller:

Suspense

Mise en scene:

Starts off with a flash back of someone out of breath and shows them running in a dark place – maybe an alley, being chased by another person wanting to kill him/her but gets away. It then comes up with 12 months later and there is somebody looking down the scope of a rifle. (Do this by using a filter and make it look like a rifle) The rifle is pointing at a person walking a dog/having a picnic (undecided on whether it is boy or girl) – close up. Establishing shot of trees (In a wood) and hear a gun shot. There is then silence and title of film comes up followed by the credits.

Shot sizes:

It will start off with somebody running out of breath, we will use pan shot to do this. It then goes to close up of the person chasing the other person. It then comes up with 12 months later and fades in to the next scene. It then goes to extreme close up of person looking through the rifle. It then goes to an establishing shot of the trees. The film title then comes up and the last scene fades to black.

Sounds:

Use natural sounds e.g. somebody out of breath, footsteps. We will also use some sort of music, to build suspense. (Made on keyboard) Also the sound of a gunshot. When the credits come up at the end, we will use some music which will sounds eerie.

Fonts:

For the title of the film, we will use bold, black writing. Just use a plain font style, which will look plain but simple. The credits will be the same as well.

Continuity Exercise Evaluation

Evaluation

In our continuity exercise, we thought that we were able to keep the flow of the piece we recorded. We used a range of shot sizes in the continuity exercise. It was a simple idea that worked because we didn’t have to do things that were too complicated. It didn’t take us very long to film or edit, as it was simple as well. As this is the first time we have really filmed anything, we thought that it went as well as it could have gone really.

We thought that with trying to use pan shot, it was quite shaky so would have been better to use a tripod. With there only being two people in the group, it was harder to film as we could not use over the shoulder shots. This was because one of us always had to hold the camera. Instead of using over the shoulder shots we used shot reverse shot in conversation. When we are having the conversation towards the end of the film, we could have used a variety of different shot sizes, instead we just used one shot size as it made it easier for us to film.

If we had to do this continuity exercise again, we would have made sure that there would have been more people in the group to help us film. It would have made it a lot easier for us, as we wouldn’t have had to be in the film ourselves. We would have made sure we used a lot more shot sizes, even though the shot sizes we did were ok, we would have experimented a little bit more to make sure that it looked more interesting. Even though it was fairly easy to film, we would have liked it to be a little bit more adventurous as we could have done a lot more with more people in the group.

Awake opening scene

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjdE5ow02HA

The first part is the information about anesthesia awareness.

So you know that it has something to do with the film but not sure what it has to do with it.

The writing is white on a black background.

Make the writing stand out.

The music is very slow.

Played on the piano.

Sounds quite cold.

It cuts to a close-up of an image of something on a wall.

The image is distorted so makes it uncomfortable to watch.

That image then cuts to a close-up of a fish’s head.

Still out of focus.

The next scene is of a picture on the wall of an office.

White credits fade in from out of the wall.

One of the pictures is of a group of doctors and the camera focuses on one of them.

It could be to show who is about to talk so you know who he is.

It then cuts to a hand taking down a picture and the outline of it still on the wall.

This could show that it has been there for a long time or that the office is very dirty.

The next image is of a man sitting in a chair. It is a mid shot.

Then there is a man’s voice, probably the man who is sitting down.

This then cuts to a close-up of a heart and a female’s voice.

This could be what the man is talking about in the office.

It then shows the man who was in the office now in the surgery room standing over a dead body.

That scene could either be a flashback or a flash forward.

The next scene is a close-up of the dead person’s face and the doctor is talking about him

He looks young so this may make you wonder as to how he has died.

It then cuts back to the office with the camera getting closer to the doctors face.

Presentation - Butterfly Effect opening scene

The music starts off quite fast and sounds kind of fluttery – goes with the writing about butterflies. It makes you wonder why butterflies have such a significance in the film. The writing is quite bold and has a black background – already setting up a mystery.

The writing then fades into the scene quite slowly. It then starts to show some sort of image, you can just about make out what the images are.

There is a distorted image of a person, which makes it uncomfortable to watch, as you do not know what is going on.

There is quite a dark setting and the clothes are quite bright, which makes them stand out on the person.

The music starts off quiet – then gets faster and louder as he gets nearer to the door- uses pan shot throughout the scene.

When near the door, you can make out that it says ‘Dr’ - This shows that he is either a patient or just a person trying to break in. The music then gets faster and louder again as he kicks the door.

When the door has been kicked open, you can tell by his clothes that he is a patient of some sort – makes people wonder what is wrong with him and why he is there. Even though he is a patient – the fact that he kicked open the door makes you know that he is not supposed to be there.

The music gets faster again as he hides and shows that he doesn’t want to be followed or found. He then grabs a box – what is its importance?

You then hear people shouting – obviously being followed. He then starts writing – says something about a plan – what plan?

He then goes on to say, “I’d be already dead” – why would he be dead? This sets up an enigma.

There is a close up of ‘SAVE HER’ – who is she? What is her importance? And how can she be saved?

Shows that the paper breaks away and looks torn.

Shows a black background and butterflies fluttering away.

Goes into an image of a brain scan – butterfly fits perfectly into it.

If you look at the top left side of the brain – it shows that there is some sort of lump, maybe a tumor?

Could give away that he is in a mental hospital?
